Tommaso Nicolao was born in Bologna, Italy in 1976.

After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, as well as illustration and design in Milan, in 1999 he moved to New York City where he joined the Ink & Co agency, working as a designer and art director for clients like Esprit, CFDA 7th on 6th, Tocca and Defilé cosmetics. 

In 2002 he moved to Paris, France, where he designed packaging and brand identity for companies such as Adidas, as well as advertising for clients like Studio Canal and the Tax Free World Association (TFWA). 

From 2003 to 2005 he was called to join the creative studio of Parfums GIVENCHY (LVMH) in Paris. With a new creative input, while maintaining a spirit of coherence with Givenchy’s global identity, Tommaso’s work included art direction for advertising and design for packaging, retail, print, branding and P.O.S.M.

In 2003 he also published I Don’t Understand magazine, a project that he co-founded and co-authored. Recently recognized in David Renard’s book The Last Magazine as one of the most cutting-edge periodicals on the market, it also appeared in the French magazine Etape Graphique.

Since 2005, Tommaso Nicolao has developed a creative collaboration with many different brands and retailers. He designed the cosmetic line TAAJ, awarded by Elle magazine, and signed the art direction for the ‘07-08 Opticiens Conseils advertising campaign featuring Adriana Karembeau. In 2008 he designed the cosmétic line R.M. GATTEFOSSÉ, from the creator of Aromathérapy in 1881.
